Making of a Market

Article was written by Wissam M. Sader

This scene was done as a part of a larger Agriculture project, the aim was to render a scene giving it an old market style with a semi open space.

I created the tree-like elements in the center of the scene by drawing a line and a circle, then using the modifier “Bevel Profile”. I tweaked the line to the form I wanted until it became organic enough to my liking.

The main vegetation on the walls was done using Guruware Ivy generator plug-in, it’s a free plugin available for download and the site offers a basic tutorial as well. The palm trees and the fruits are from Evermotion archmodels.

Here are some screenshots of the materials used in the scene:

Lightning:

Lighting the interior was very simple, I added V-Ray light plane behind the glass shops and on the ceiling corridors where it was necessary. The light rays from outside are done in post-production using Photoshop tools.

Below are the lighting setting for the scene.

There are many ways to go about for the post-production using Photoshop. I personally used in this scene the curves, color balance, and the levels to obtain the effect I’m looking for.

For the light rays it was simple: create a new layer, select a soft round brush, pick a yellowish color tone, draw a straight line using shift while drawing, like the image below:

Staying on light ray layer, go to filter and pick motion blur. You can try different brush types using this technique.

There you have it. I hope you enjoyed this article!
